Do you mean like a metaphorical god is in you or more like god is influencing your morals? or did you just mean general "you" haha. I know a lot of people say they follow morals and guidelines based on god. Which for me, you can understand, is different since I was raised with no idea or thought of god, just did things on my own and learned beliefs or morals on my own, if that makes sense.
Yeah. I feel like God is a concept developed by good natured people who wanted to inspire unintelligent people to be good to each other. Basically a fictional nanny state to help encourage people not to fuck each other's wives and murder each other. It got co-opted immediately and used to push political stances and ideals rather than the ideals the foundation of the "words of god" meant from the beginning.
So now it's just like, why follow along with whatever this dude has become? Just don't be an asshole. Then you don't need God as a motivator. You just know you're not shitty so even if heaven/hell did exist, that construct doesn't matter because you weren't an asshole, so you'd just go to heaven anyways.

yeah my theory was someone or a group of people were mentally ill or experiencing auditory/visual hallucinations and it spread around and they turned it into something else. Or someone totally lied as you said. It's a way to keep people in "check". I would be fine with it except for the fact that the bible has like mean and hateful concepts too so I don't like that those are being promoted and people follow them. if those were gone then I wouldn't care. But yeah I hate that you can still go to heaven after being an asshole as long as you just confess or worship god enough. it sucks because it defeats that purpose of following him for moral values and being a good person. Religion created a loophole and made it easier for people to be assholes because they can just repent or confess after doing bad things.

I only have a few questions re: believers...

1. If their God is all knowing, all powerful, and benevolent. Why would it create disease, deformation, tragedy, and hate? Why would it create men and women who's very existence is considered a sin and then force them to either conform or spend eternity in a horrible place? If such a being exists, they are surely malevolent and not benevolent as they would suggest.

2. Of the millions who lived before the events spoken in the bible, in far away lands without the ability to communicate with one another, what happened to those that never knew of the bible or the stories within? Were they doomed to eternity in hell simply for never having known the concept? Seems malevolent to me.

3. If a deity exists, then I ask why? Are we just ants in a giant ant farm? Why would it give a single solitary fuck if people believed in it or not if such is the case?

4. Talking serpents, burning bushes, and a whole list of additional hallucinations can be attributed to wild plants and berries in the region. All the discussed plagues are attributable to naturally occurring events, such as locust migration, algae blooms, volcanic activity etc.

Honestly, even Hell is misconstrued within the pages of the bible. Such a place is understood by scholars to simply be the trash and refuse pile that was outside the walls of Jerusalem where trash, human excrement, and even bodies were tossed and lit ablaze to quickly rid of the stench that would build up, thus rotting and burning in hell would be the fate of those who did not meet the religious and social expectations of society.

Either benign, malevolent, or non-existent, there is no place for a being of such nature in my heart. I choose to be good because I think people deserve respect and kindness, not because I think I'll get rewarded for being so.
